Ligue 1 round-up

PSG edged further closer to relegation from Ligue 1 with a 1-0 defeat at Rennes.

Paris Saint Germain edged further closer to relegation from Ligue 1 with a 1-0 defeat at Rennes.

The capital club have never been relegated since joining the top flight in 1974 but it now looks a more than realistic proposition, as they are currently second bottom of the table.

PSG had put in a spirited away day display but their resistance was broken in the 76th minute, when Rennes striker Jimmy Briand headed in the game's solitary goal.

Coach Paul Le Guen saw his woes compounded in added time when Bernard Mendy was shown a red card for a rash tackle on Briand.

In the only other Ligue 1 game on Sunday second placed Lens missed out on the opportunity to keep pace with leaders Lyon, when they fell to a 1-0 at Auxerre.

Danish midfielder Thomas Kahlenberg proved to be Auxerre's matchwinner as he struck home from the angle in the 17th minute.
