Lille consolidated second place in Ligue 1 with victory over Lens.

Claude Puel's side are being push hard by the likes of Monaco and Marseille for the runners-up spot - with leaders Lyon well ahead at the top.

Matt Moussilou put Lille ahead after 40 minutes, but Lens levelled just before the interval through Jerome Leroy.

Lille looked like they were set to drop to vital points, but young substitute Nicolas Fauvergue became a hero for the home side as he pounced in the final minute.

Marseille suffered a shock 2-1 loss to Ajaccio at The Stade Velodrome which boosts the Corsican side's chances of survival.

Yohan Demont (25) and Marcelo Edson (53) put Ajaccio 2-0 up, before Habib Beye (59) pulled one back for the home side, but it was too little too late for Phillipe Troussier's side.

Ajaccio are still only five points clear of the drop zone as Corsican rivals Bastia defeated Toulouse 2-1 and Caen beat Nice.

Pierre Yves-Andre (20 & 52) grabbed two goals for Bastia and that proved enough as Achile Emana (77) late strike was all Toulouse could muster.

Ajaccio have moved up one spot and above Nice on goal difference as they went down to Caen at The Muncipal Du Ray.

The only goal of the game came from Sebastian Mazure and the home side now sit just five points ahead of Caen.

Monaco failed to take advantage of Marseille's defeat after drawing 1-1 at Sochaux.

Ernesto Chevanton had put The Principality outfit ahead (10) early on but Brazilian Ilan rescued a point for the home side with his goal just before the break.

Fifth placed Rennes twice came from behind to seal a 2-2 home draw against St Etienne.

Les Verts went ahead through Frederic Piquionne (7) before Alexander Frei levelled before half time.

Julien Sable then put St Etienne back ahead, but Olivier Monterrubio (75) penalty secured a point for Rennes.

Nantes bolstered their survival hopes with a crucial 2-0 success at Bordeauz.

Olivier Quint (19) and Mamadou Bagayoko (90) scored for Les Canaris which keeps their five-point cushion from the relegation battle intact.

Metz made sure they keep themselves just ahead of the bottom-seven after a 2-1 win over bottom of the table Istres.

Herve Tum gave Metz the lead (8) before Moussa N'Diaye looked to have sealed a point for Istres.

However, Tum left it late and sealed the win with goal in the final minute.
