Coach Remi Garde's announcement that he would be leaving Lyon did not surprise midfielder Maxime Gonalons.
Garde's contract expires at the end of the season and he used Tuesday's press conference to end mounting speculation over his future plans by confirming that he would not be signing a new deal.
Gonalons revealed Garde's plans were known to the squad before his announcement.
"I had already known for a little while," he told L'Equipe.
"You feel things when you work with the staff every day, there are discussions.
"The season has been hard and he is quite tired, he has given everything for the team."
Gonalons himself has been linked with a move to Arsenal or Napoli this summer, with the Serie A side reported to be leading the chase.
Asked about his own future, the 25-year-old said: "I don't want to answer.
"There will be discussions with the president, we will find the best solution.
"I want to see where the club is going and what their ambitions are. I need to advance and progress."
