Coach pens new deal at Ligue 1 club until 2014

Remi Garde has extended his contract as Lyon coach until 2014 after leading the club to their first trophy in four years on his debut season. The 46-year-old, who formerly played for Lyon and Arsenal, signed a one-year deal when he took charge of the Ligue 1 club last summer, but his efforts this season have been rewarded with a contract extension. The club announced on their official website on Friday that the coach will stay on at the Stade de Gerland for another two years. The seven-time French champions lifted the French Cup in April after failing to secure silverware for the past three campaigns. However, Lyon failed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League for the first time since 2000, finishing fourth in Ligue 1, and will have to settle for UEFA Europa League football next season.
