Wiltord tempted by Rennes

Lyon forward Sylvain Wiltord would be tempted by a return to his first club Rennes.

Lyon forward Sylvain Wiltord would be tempted by a return to his first club Rennes.

Wiltord appears likely to be given permission to leave the French champions, with Rennes claiming to have received the go-ahead to start talks.

Though his agent Fabrice Henin-Hilaire is waiting for an indication from Lyon, he admitted Wiltord is attracted by the prospect of rejoining Rennes.

"Sylvain's ambition is a sporting ambition," Henin-Hilaire told L'Equipe. "He only talks about that.

"His wish is to stay in France, in an ambitious club where he would be in the starting XI.

"No one can deny that Rennes is a sane and ambitious club. Everyone is aware a comeback to the club where he was educated could be a beautiful story.

"Anyway, we can't view any trail yet because we don't know Lyon's position. We have no news."

Meanwhile, Rennes' new signing Mickael Pagis from Marseille is looking forward to playing for the club.

Pagis told the club's official website: "It is a nice challenge for me. They are an ambitious club.

"Jimmy Briand is a good player. I love to play with those kind of strikers, who are very quick and who need space."

Rennes have also been linked with a move for Jerome Leroy after the midfielder cancelled his contract with Sochaux.
