Lyon clinched a place in the French League Cup final after edging to a 1-0 win over Le Mans.

Full-back Eric Abidal was the hero for the Ligue 1 champions as he scored the only goal, while Le Mans finished the game with 10 men.

Abidal struck decisively midway through the first half when he got in one-on-one with Le Mans keeper Yohann Pele before finishing from an angle.

Le Mans' prospects of drawing level were dealt a crushing blow nine minutes from time when Gregory Cerdan was sent off for a second yellow card.

Lyon held out to secure a spot in the final against Bordeaux, who had beaten Reims 2-1 on Tuesday evening.
