Benzema commits to France

Lyon striker Karim Benzema has chosen France over Algeria.

Lyon striker Karim Benzema has committed his international future to France.

Benzema has emerged as one of the best prospects in Ligue 1 this season with a series of impressive performances.

He was called up by Les Bleus boss Raymond Domenech last month but was not able to make his debut in the friendly against Greece due to injury.

Due to his North African roots Benzema is also eligible to play for Algeria, and he was contacted this week by their football federation.

Benzema insists that his Algerian heritage is important to him, but he is determined to play for France and has moved to end the speculation.

"Algeria is my parents' country and it is in my heart, but I will play for the France national team," he said.
