John Carew has welcomed Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas's statement that he wants the big Norwegian to remain at the club.
Despite Lyon having real problems in the striking department, Carew has been linked with a January move away from Stade Gerland.
Feyenoord, Hamburg and CSKA Moscow are all rumoured to be keeping tabs on the striker's situation, but any bids are likely to be given short shrift.
"We are very happy to have John," said Aulas. "Even if he is a player that several clubs are keen to offer us more than what we paid for him, his departure is not topical."
Carew has struggled to establish himself under Gerard Houllier at Lyon, but he is looking to fight for his place.
"You can't prevent rumours," Carew told L'Equipe. "But I want to remain here after the winter break.
"And it is nice the chairman appreciates me, as I appreciate him too."
Reports in the French press say Lyon are looking to ward off any interest in defender Eric Abidal by handing him a new deal.
Abidal's present deal runs until 2009, but the club are keen to ensure he remains loyal by handing him improved terms.
