Lyon pulled clear at the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory over struggling Troyes.

Brazilian duo Cris (16) and Juninho Pernambucano (86) both struck to take the reigning champions three points ahead of Marseille, although l'OM do have a game in hand.

Lille climbed up to second following a 1-1 draw with Nantes, who themselves drop into the bottom three.

Peter Odemwingie broke the deadlock for Lille, but Nantes battled back for a point courtesy of Dimitrie Payet's finish.

St Etienne also dropped points as they drew 2-2 at Sedan. Stephane Noro grabbed both goals for the hosts (7 and 57), while Frederic Piquionne (2) and Pascal Feindouno (70) found the target for Les Verts.

Bordeaux have started the season poorly and were made to work for a 3-2 win by bottom club Nice.

Cedric Varrault fired Nice into a surprise lead (29), but Les Girondins responded well through Wendel (45) and a Jean-Claude Darcheville brace (43 and 64). Honorato Ederson scored from the penalty spot (78) to keep the pressure on until the final whistle.

Lens cruised to a 3-0 victory over top flight new boys Valenciennes, with Aruna Dindane (8 and 24) scoring twice and Yohan Demont also netting (32).

Lorient, who also came up from Ligue 2, continued their solid start with a 1-1 draw at Le Mans.

Grafite opened the scoring for Le Mans four minutes into the second half, before Jeremy Morel equalised for the visitors.

Rennes finally found some form as they saw off Sochaux 2-1 at Stade de la Route-de-Lorient.

All the goals arrived in a frenetic ten-minute period in the second half, with Olivier Monterrubio's penalty (62) winning the game for the home side after Alvaro Dos Santos (55) had levelled Cyril Jeunechamp's opener (53).

In the day's final game strikes from Benoit Cheyrou (29) and Ireneusz Jelen (58) guided Auxerre to a 2-1 success over Monaco, whose solitary goal came from Frederic Nimani N'Galou (60).
