Jean-Michel Aulas insists Lyon have other irons in the fire should a deal for Marseille winger Franck Ribery fail to be brokered.

Lyon are desperate to add Ribery to their dominant squad, while the France international has expressed a desire to join the Ligue 1 champions.

But Marseille are reluctant to sell Ribery, despite Lyon's willingness to splash out around £18 million for the highly-rated wide man.

Talks are currently on hold while Ribery competes in the World Cup and Lyon chairman Aulas remains determined to land the former Metz starlet.

Aulas, though, claims he has other options to pursue, if he is unable to persuade Marseille to do business.

"Indeed we are looking for a player on the right," Aulas told France Football. "We don't hide that we would like Franck to come.

"But during the World Cup, Marseille has stopped any talk. I underline we have informed that club about our interest in Franck.

"However, there is no trail of strength between Lyon and Marseille. Marseille can completely take advantage of that transfer because, considering the money we are keen to invest for Ribery, they could reinforce their team with two or three very good players.

"But we are following a couple of other trails."

Aulas has been fielding offers for Lyon attacker Sidney Govou, but has yet to receive a bid suitable for the player.

He added: "A few clubs have contacted us for Sidney, but with propositions we believe to be inadequate."

Meanwhile, the latest reports suggest Manchester United and Real Madrid target Mahamadou Diarra could stay at Lyon next season.
