Abidal to defy Aulas

Eric Abidal is ready to defy Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas and play for France.

Eric Abidal is ready to defy Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas and play for France on Wednesday.

The defender has only just returned to action after collecting a foot injury while playing for Les Bleus last November.

Aulas is keen to protect Abidal from further unnecessary injury against Slovakia in midweek, but he has different ideas of his own.

The 26-year-old fears his World Cup place could be under jeopardy if he withdraws from the squad when coach Raymond Domenech requires his services.

"I know that my club's chairman doesn't want me to play on Wednesday. It's his idea but I have my own," said Abidal.

"I feel fine. I have played three matches over the last few days, why shouldn't I be able to play the fourth and then able to play the fifth?

"I had a Champions League outing [against PSV] last week and I suppose I can have an international match this week."
