New Paris Saint Germain coach Guy Lacombe is considering a move for Lyon midfielder Benoit Pedretti.

Lacombe worked with the France international at Sochaux and made Pedretti his captain during his time at the club.

But since leaving Sochaux in 2004, initially for Marseille, Pedretti's career has stagnated and a summer switch to Lyon has not considerably enhanced his situation.

Reports in France now claim that Lacombe may try to tempt the champions into parting with Pedretti during the January transfer window.

The key issue is Lyon's reluctance to strengthen a title rival and they are likely to demand a big fee for Pedretti.

That would be beyond PSG's reach unless they relent to Modeste M'Bami's long-held desire to move to The Premiership.

PSG could raise the necessary funds for a bid for Pedretti by selling M'Bami, with Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United having been linked with the Cameroon ace in the past.

But before making any decisions on what areas he needs to strengthen, Lacombe confirmed he will give the current crop of players a chance to impress.

Lacombe said: "About winter reinforcements, we will see after the first matches in January before making a decision."

Auxerre have been linked with Fabrice Pancrate, but Lacombe is reluctant to offload the attacker in the New Year.
