Lyon are set to announce they are suing Fifa over the injury picked up Eric Abidal on international duty.

Abidal suffered a broken foot during France's 3-2 victory over Costa Rica in a friendly international played in Martinique in November.

The injury is likely to sideline Abidal until February and Lyon are furious at losing such a key player for so long.

Lyon were unhappy with France's decision to play the match in Martinique three days before a friendly against Germany at the Stade de France, with coach Gerard Houllier threatening to withhold his players before deciding to release them.

The French champions are angry with Fifa for forcing clubs to release their players without compensation when they are picked for international duty.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is to hold a press conference on Wednesday to disclose details of his plans to take legal action against football's world governing body.
