Reigning champions Lyon secured their place at the top of Le Championnat as they dished out a 4-0 hiding to Metz.

The home side could not cope with Gerard Houllier's rampant stars and Norwegian hit-man John Carew shot them into the lead on 23 minutes.

Brazilian midfielder Juninho and former Arsenal star Sylvain Wiltord ensured OL went into the break with a three-goal advantage, and it was left to Florent Malouda to wrap up the scoring on 51 minutes.

Paris Saint Germain remain seven points behind their rivals in second after a 1-0 win over Nancy.

Ivorian star Bonaventure Kalou was the hero for the home side as his 54th minute strike was enough to seal all three points at Parc des Princes.

Bordeaux failed to keep pace with the Parisian club as they could only draw 1-1 with Toulouse.

Daniel Moreira opened the scoring for the home side on 42 minutes but Bordeaux rescued a draw thanks to Juan Francia (67).

Lille, fresh from securing a draw against Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League moved to within two points of Lyon as they beat Nantes 2-0.

Jean Makoun handed the home side a lead they were not to relinquish as he scored on 23 minutes, and Matt Moussilou added further gloss with a second in the dying moments.

Auxerre are now level with Lille after they crashed to a 1-0 defeat at Nice.

Marama Varihua scored the decisive goal on 35 minutes to deny Jacques Santini's men.
