Lyon have unveiled new signing Sylvain Monsoreau from Sochaux.

The 24-year-old has penned a four-year deal with the French champions as Gerard Houllier continues his summer spending.

The signing comes hot on the heels of Marseille midfielder Benoit Pedretti and president Jean-Michel Aulas says that it is a sign of the club's thinking for the future.

"This signing corresponds with the wishes of Gerard Houllier," Aulas told the club website. "The trainer is very happy, like us all, about the arrival of Sylvain.

"He is the central defender whom we have been missing and it constitutes a perfect reinforcement within our defensive line.

"It has been one of the priorities of the club for some time."

Monsoreau was delighted to have joined Lyon, and said he could not turn down the offer of joining the French champions for the past four years.

"You do not refuse Lyon," said Monsoreau on being unveiled as a Lyon player.

"For me and my career it is the ideal club. They are the champions of France and each season they play well in the Champions League.

"I had very good contacts with Werder Bremen and went to their ground to meet the sporting director and coach.

"Following the phone call from president Aulas, I had a lot of reflecting to do, but I had a much greater desire to join Lyon."
