Lyon to let Govou go

Lyon have revealed they are willing to let Sidney Govou leave the club.

The Lyon captain has expressed his desire to leave Stade Gerland in the summer to experience a new challenge.

Lyon are now ready to grant the long-serving player his wish by letting him depart the French champions.

France international Govou is contracted at Stade Gerland until 2008, but he could leave for the right offer.

Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas insists Govou will be the only player allowed to leave the club despite insistent speculation over a number of their stars.

"Sidney (Govou) said he wanted to leave," Aulas told L'Equipe. "After what he has done for the club, he has the right to go.

"But that will be all. I am ready to talk with agents to renegotiate existing contracts but nothing else. That is clear.

"Just once I gave up a player against my will - it was Steve Marlet.

"It cost me so many troubles. If Sidney leaves, we will replace him. "
