Lyon all but won the French title on Saturday, despite losing 1-0 to Paris Saint Germain - because Monaco surprisingly lost 4-1 at home to Rennes.

Lyon could still be caught by PSG - who are now within three points - but their difference is 15 goals better, meaning they cannot realistically be caught.

PSG secured victory at Parc des Princes thanks to Portuguese star Pauleta who struck after seven minutes.

The Parisien outfit are now in second place in Le Championnat as the three points took them ahead of Monaco - who lost to Rennes at Stade Louis II.

Alexander Frei put Rennes ahead after nine minutes, but just 60 seconds later Fernando Morientes (pictured) levelled.

Into the second period, Rennes took charge of the game and Olivier Monterrubio put his side ahead on the hour mark from the penalty spot.

Swedish starlet Kim Kallstrom then grabbed a double (74 & 90) to seal a tremendous win for his side.

Fourth placed Auxerre consolidated their position as Liverpool-bound Djibril Cisse struck twice in a 2-0 win over Nantes.

Sochaux kept up the pressure on Auxerre in fifth as they defeated Le Mans 3-0.

Jeremy Mathieu (38) struck in the first half, before two late goals from Francileudo dos Santos (88) and Pierre Alain-Frau (90) sealed the win.

Le Mans are still second from bottom and three points off safety with one game of the season left.

Uefa Cup finalists Marseille continued their poor form in the league as they lost 2-1 at Toulouse.

l'OM had taken the lead through a Issoumailia Dao own goal on four minutes, but the home side levelled on the stroke of half time through Fernandao from the penalty spot.

El Hadji Khalifa Ba was also dismissed for Marseille late in the second half and that allowed Toulouse to push forward and look for the winner - which came five minutes from time through Eduardo Da Silva.

The win means Toulouse are now out of the relegation zone, and actually climbed into 16th after Ajaccio and Guingamp lost.

Ajaccio find themselves in the bottom three after they lost 2-0 at Lens.

Papa Bouba Diop put the home side ahead after 41 minutes and even the dismissal of Patrick Barul could not hamper Lens.

They doubled their lead in the final minute as Charles-Edouard Coridon pounced.

Guingamp are now just a point above the drop zone after they let a 1-0 lead slip at home to Nice.

Beli-Moumouni Dagano put them ahead on 26 minutes, but two goals in the last six minutes from Sammy Traore and Lillian Laslandes gave Nice victory.

Montpellier's relegation from the top-flight was confirmed after their 2-1 loss to Strasbourg.

Abdellah Fahmi put the away side ahead just after the interval and just moments later Montpellier were reduced to ten men when Mansour Assourmani was dismissed.

Habib Bamogo levelled for the home side from the penalty spot, but that did not save them as Pascal Camadini struck the winner for Strasbourg after 72 minutes.

Lille secured a 2-0 win over Bastia at the Stade Gimonprez-Jooris.

Milenko Acimovic (71) and Matt Moussilou (90) grabbed the goals for the home side.

Metz secured their top-flight status with a 3-1 win over Bordeaux.

Juan Francia put Bordeaux ahead after 25 minutes, but Metz dominated the second period.

Gregory Proment levelled just before hour from the penalty spot, before Medhi Memiri put his side ahead.

Sebastien Renouard made sure of victory 18 minutes from time.
