Lyon keeper eyes exit

Lyon's second choice goalkeeper Remi Vercoutre admits he wants to leave the reigning French champions in the summer.

Vercoutre has become frustrated at his lack of regular opportunities at Stade Gerland and is desperate for first-team football.

The 24-year-old has been unable to usurp number one Gregory Coupet (pictured) and is ready to cut his links with the club at the end of the season.

Espanyol were keen on the shot-stopper during January's transfer window and Vercoutre concedes he would have left if the club had sanctioned the deal.

"I want to play, play and play," Vercoutre told L'Equipe Magazine. "At Lyon, Greg is here for a while.

"How could I dislodge him?

"If a club could completely trust in me, it would be perfect.

"When I think that during the transfer window Espanyol wanted me, I was ready to go but OL chairman Jean-Michel Aulas refused to let me leave, saying he relies on me.

"He was right, I would have missed the match against Real Sociedad."

But Vercoutre's outing in the UEFA Champions League against Sociedad was only due to a wrist injury to Coupet.

Lyon's first choice had feared his career might be over with the problem but is already back in action and thankful the injury was not serious.

Coupet commented: "I honestly thought about the end of my career ten days ago, fearing a new wrist fracture, so I think I am still lucky.

"I appreciate coming back into the group so quickly, particularly with such a sequence of good matches ahead."
