The Primera basement boys are said to have reached a deal for the 26-year-old defensive midfielder with their French counterparts on Christmas Eve.
Bassila will join the Catalan outfit on loan for the rest of the current campaign with an option to make the move permanent should he impress.
The former Lyon and Rennes star will take part in his first training session with his new club when the players return from their Christmas break next Saturday.
Espanyol are also on the verge of finalising a loan deal for former defender Mauricio Pochettino.
The Argentine central defender has found himself out of favour at Bordeaux and is keen on a return to Estadi Montjuic to secure regular first-team action.
A few minor details are still to be resolved but agreement is expected to be reached in the near future.
Another possible arrival from France could be Lyon goalkeeper Remi Vercoutre as Espanyol boss Luis Fernandez is an admirer of the custodian and has urged the club to launch a bid to lure him to Spain.
