BAYERN MUNICH chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has rubbished speculation that Claudio Pizarro could be set to leave the club as a result of the imminent arrival of Roy Makaay at the Olympic Stadium.

With Europe's top scorer Makaay, Bundesliga golden boot winner Giovane Elber, and the highly-rated Roque Santa Cruz already at the Olympic Stadium, Pizarro faces a major fight for a place in the side

Reports in France suggest that Lyon are interested in the Peruvian international as they look for a new striker, but Rummenigge insists Pizarro is going nowhere.

"We are not buying Makaay in order to sell Pizarro," declared Rummenigge,

Pizarro has also declared he is not afraid of the fight for a place in attack.

"I am not afraid of anyone," said Pizarro.

"I am used to having to fight for a place in the team so I don't have any problem if new strikers arrive.

"Each one of us will have to show in each training session the form in which you are convincing the coach that you are the best one for playing in the next match."

Lyon, however, have not totally given up on landing Pizarro, as sporting director Bernard Lacombe is a huge fan of the player.

L'OL chairman Jean-Michel Aulas knows that Bayern are reluctant to sell him but has still not ruled out the idea completely.

"Bernard Lacombe loves Pizarro," said Aulas. "He is captivated by this player.

"We got a lot of information about him. Bayern Munich don't want to hear about his departure, but with the Makaay arrival, things can change."
