LYON are thought to be monitoring Olivier Kapo's situation at Auxerre, according to reports emanating from France.

The reigning French champions are in the market for a midfielder and have held a long-term interest in Kapo.

The 22-year-old's future at Abbe Deschamps is in doubt as his current deal expires next June and he has refused their first offer of an extension.

Auxerre are desperate to tie Kapo down to a new deal and are planning to hold further talks with him, but they could decide to cash-in rather than risk losing the player on a free if talks break down again.

Lyon could face competition from Arsenal and Valencia for the young French star.

Before Lyon can make any moves in the transfer market they will probably have to sell some stars, with Belgian defender Eric Deflandre set for the exit door after falling out-of-favour under Paul Le Guen.

Frederic Nee could also be sacrificed with Bastia and Ajaccio keen on his signature, while veteran centre defender Florent Laville has asked to leave the club.
