The talented playmaker just pipped Paris Saint Germain star Ronaldinho and Lyon's Juninho to the award.
Jacques Santini has called up the midfielder as Zinedine Zidane is unlikely to play for France with Real Madrid's mouthwatering match with Barcelona taking place this weekend.
Zidane is still expected to remain with Les Bleus to receive treatment, and Santini admits it is difficult forging a relationship with the top clubs that suits all parties.
"When they ask my opinion, yes, I think I co-operate more," he said.
"Vicente del Bosque didn't call me to know if I would prefer Zizou didn't play against Real Sociedad.

"It is out of the question to take any risk.
"Whatever the importance of the weekend encounter, he was anyway withdrawing at 95 percent.
"Anyway, he will stay with us."
France tackle Yugoslavia this week, and Giuly is expected to get his chance to impress.
