Diawara scoops player gong

NICE striker Kaba Diawara has scooped the French Player of the Month award for August.

The 26-year-old Frenchman has made an explosive start to the season with his five goals firing the newcomers into a shock lead in the race for the title.

The much-travelled striker has turned out for Bordeaux, Marseille and PSG in his time in France and has also had fairly unsuccessful spells at Arsenal, West Ham and Blackburn in England.

He now seems to have settled on the Cote d'Azur, and his prolific start to the campaign easily beat off competition from Philipp Mexes and Sonny Anderson to scoop the gong.

Mexes did receive an award however, as he took the first ever Serge-Mesones trophy for fair play.

The Auxerre youngster was awarded the trophy for his good sportsmanship in helping an injured opponent during the derby game with Troyes.
