Lyon are ready to offer a new deal with an annual salary of at least £2.9million to star striker Alexandre Lacazette in an attempt to keep him at the club.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has revealed he is ready to open his wallet to keep the Lacazette at the Stade de Gerland next season.

Lacazette, who was Ligue 1’s top-scorer last term with 27 goals, has attracted attention from a host of Premier League clubs including Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool after a season in which he also provided five assists and earned the Player of the Year award.

"Alexandre wishes to be the No 1 and receive the biggest salary at the club, which is absolutely understandable,” Aulas said.

“He will earn at least four million euros a year.”

Lacazette has become a target for leading clubs around Europe after a breathtaking campaign last term, but Aulas said it would be "a strategical error" to sell the France international.

"That is why we have made him an offer that will see him become the best paid player at Lyon by far," he added.
