Monaco have announced an extension to coach Leonardo Jardim's contract until the summer of 2019.

Jardim was appointed to the post last summer on a two-year deal which also had a one-year option tagged on.

The Portuguese is steering Monaco towards a top-four finish in Ligue 1 this season, with two rounds left in the 2014-15 campaign.

Jardim has also won several admirers for Monaco's displays in the Champions League, which saw them knock Arsenal out in the round of 16 earlier this year.

The former Braga and Sporting Lisbon coach said: "I'm pleased to be making this long-term commitment to AS Monaco. This contract extension is a mark of confidence from the club and the directors.

"We have worked hard this season to put in place this new project, and I'm convinced that the best is still to come.

"There are lots of quality youngsters in this team. We need to continue with what we've shown this season. The club is ambitious and so am I."

Monaco are currently third in the Ligue 1 table but have Marseille and St Etienne hot on their heels in the race for Champions League qualification.
