Marseille coach Marcelo Bielsa and striker Andre-Pierre Gignac hailed the character shown by the team as they came from behind to beat Bordeaux and reclaim the lead of Ligue 1.

Thomas Toure gave Les Girondins the lead but Mario Lemina quickly equalised and two goals in the last five minutes, from Gignac and substitute Michy Batshuayi, earned OM a 3-1 victory.

The result saw the early-season pace-setters edge back ahead of Paris St Germain, who beat Metz 3-2 on Friday night, at the summit and Bielsa told L'Equipe: "It is an important win that we had to work hard for - that is why I celebrated the third goal so demonstratively.

"After a defeat (2-0 at PSG on November 9), it is always important to win, especially because this win allowed us to regain the position we need."

Gignac added: "It's the first time we have turned around a situation that was against us. We showed heart to win and reclaim the lead, and especially to recover after the defeats at Lyon and Paris.

"After Bordeaux's goal, we had no time to doubt ourselves. We had played well in the first half and Mario's beautiful equaliser showed us the way."

The goal capped a wonderful week for midfielder Lemina, whose son Neals was born on Thursday, and he said: "When I scored it was very emotional, I thought of my son and my family. I was very happy.

"We did not let their goal get us down and having gone behind we scored three times. We went straight back on the attack, pushed and pushed, and it paid off."
