Montpellier chairman Louis Nicollin has warned the club will have to move players on before bolstering in January.
The 2012 champions are currently languishing in 17th place in Ligue 1 - just five points above the drop zone - after only two top-flight wins all term.
Nicollin believes the club, who finished ninth last season, should be sitting in the top ten at present.
He has issued a rallying call for Rolland Courbis' squad to 'fight' and warned he will not bolster the squad in the winter transfer window unless players exit.
In comments reported by L'Equipe, Nicollin is quoted as saying: "What hurt me the most, early last season, was to have seen everyone but a few officials having a big head (after winning the title)!
"If they had worked as a dustman just like me, they would not have had such a big head.
"Maybe we will have to get reinforcements in the winter. But if there is no departure there will be no arrival.
"Our real position should be 10th. But before reaching it, we have to win matches and fight."
