Marseille confident playmaker will stay

Marseille chairman Vincent Labrune has held talks with Mathieu Valbuena and claims the playmaker has given no indication that he wants to leave. The France international was reported to have grown disillusioned with life at Stade Velodrome after being dropped to the bench for recent fixtures. A dip in form also led to him being overlooked by national coach Laurent Blanc, further fanning the transfer flames. Marseille officials have always maintained that they have no intention of sanctioning a sale, but they were keen to meet with the player to get his take on the rumours. Labrune has now held such talks and he is adamant that Valbuena, who is under contract until 2014, will be going nowhere.

Important

"The talks went smoothly," he told L'Equipe. "We talked about him and his career at Marseille so far. He is a very important player. "A winter departure? We didn't even discuss it. "He never stated that he wants to leave."
