Nice midfielder laid low with calf complaint

Nice coach Eric Roy has revealed that unfortunate midfielder Emerse Fae is facing up to another lengthy spell on the sidelines. The Ivory Coast international has picked up another calf problem and is expected to be out of action until well into the New Year. The 27-year-old has now suffered similar injuries four times in as many years, with it becoming increasingly difficult for him to shake off the ailment. Roy has refused to speculate on reports suggesting Fae may be forced to retire, with it his belief that the former Reading man will be back before the end of the season. "After the match against Caen he felt a muscle strain in his thigh," he told L'Equipe.

Blow

"We thought it was not very serious and he would miss five or six days. But two days later he had calf pain. He had medical examinations and a new problem was found. "It is a bad blow for him because he has made a lot of effort to get back to his best and it is a bad blow for the team because we know what he is capable of. "He will now have further examinations and meet with specialists. "We hope he will be back in around six months, just like he was the last time he suffered this problem." Fae will be hoping to figure again before the end of the 2011/12 campaign as his contract is due to expire next summer.
