Paris Saint Germain legend Claude Makelele has re-joined the club in an advisory role to help with their development. Makelele captained PSG towards the tail end of an illustrious career and only just retired from playing at the end of last season. The Ligue 1 club have been bolstered by a substantial cash injection by their new Qatari owners and have spent lavishly over the summer. And they have now hired the 38-year-old to help them formulate their strategy of making PSG one the biggest teams in world football with his vast knowledge of the game. Director of football at PSG, Leonardo, was delighted with the appointment of an iconic figure within French football.

Project

"I'm very happy for us to keep a person such as Claude Makelele at the club to help the project progress step by step," he told the club's official website. "Claude will bring us his experience after spending almost 20 years playing for the biggest clubs in the world. " For Makelele, the opportunity to continue his involvement with the club was one he simply could not resist, as PSG embark on what can only be exciting times ahead. He added: "I am very pleased to begin a new chapter in my career by bringing my expertise to PSG. "It was an honour to have been the captain, and I am now very proud to be able to bring my contribution to this club - and this project looks exciting." Makelele played for Nantes, Marseille, Celta Vigo, Real and Chelsea in what was a trophy-laden career.
