Former Champions League winner set to join French giants

Marseille have confirmed they are set to sign former Liverpool defender Djimi Traore. The 31-year-old has been out injured since December after undergoing surgery on a knee complaint but has now agreed terms with the French club. The Mali international was part of the Reds team that won the 2005 UEFA Champions League after staging a thrilling comeback against AC Milan. The versatile defender, who can play at either left-back or centre-half, is a free agent after his contract with relegated Monaco expired in June. Traore has previously played for Laval, Portsmouth, Rennes, Birmingham and Charlton during his well-travelled career.
