Bordeaux have confirmed that Brazilian midfielder Wendel has agreed to join Saudi Arabian outfit Al Ittihad.

The 29-year-old leaves Les Girondins after five years, having joined the club from Santos in 2006.

He formed part of the squad that claimed the Ligue 1 title under Laurent Blanc in 2009.

He has, however, been deemed surplus to requirements this summer, with Bordeaux prepared to listen to offers.

Al Ittihad have reached an agreement for the Samba star and he will now continue his career in the Middle East.

A statement released by Bordeaux on their official website read: "The club thanks Wendel for everything he achieved at Bordeaux and wish him the best on his new adventure."

The South American scored a total of 35 goals in 156 league appearances, including hat-tricks against Toulouse and Paris St Germain.
