Bordeaux have confirmed Brazilian midfielder Wendel is poised to join the Saudi Arabian club Al lttihad.
A proposed move to St Etienne for the 29-year-old broke down but it now appears he has opted for a fresh challenge in the Middle East.
Wendel held talks with club president Jean-Louis Triaud on Thursday to sort out the details of his transfer.
Triaud told regional newspaper Sud Ouest: "Once we've received the payment he (Wendel) can leave."
The midfielder saw his move to St Etienne collapse due to the clubs being unable to agree on a financial settlement for a player with just one year left on his contract.
Wendel has enjoyed a fruitful five seasons with Bordeaux during which time he has garnered one Ligue 1 title and two League Cups.
