Auxerre stalwart suffers ligament damage

Auxerre have been rocked by the news that Jean-Pascal Mignot is to be sidelined for up to three months. The 29-year-old complained of pain in his foot following a 1-1 draw with Lyon in December and medical tests have discovered ligament damage. Mignot, who has spent his entire career with AJA, is due to undergo surgery on Monday in an effort to aid his recovery. He will, however, require a lengthy period of rest in which to overcome the problem completely. It is expected that he will be out for up to 12 weeks, preventing him from playing any part in Auxerre's ongoing efforts to reignite a European push. While disappointed to be without the services of such a key player for a prolonged period of time, coach Jean Fernandez has no plans to enter the winter transfer market in search of cover. Instead, he is prepared to offer opportunities to impress to some of the club's promising academy graduates.
