Cedric Carrasso believes Bordeaux need to dig a little deeper if they are to climb the table.
The 2009 champions are currently in the midst of a seven-game unbeaten run, but remain six points adrift of league leaders Lille.
An impressive recovery has been made following a slow start, but there is a sense that there is still more to come.
Seven draws, including five in their last seven outings, have held Bordeaux back somewhat, preventing them from joining the frontrunners.
Carrasso is confident a title tilt can still be staged, but admits greater fighting spirit needs to be displayed if one point is to be turned into three on a regular basis.
"We aren't struggling but we need to show more spirit," said the highly-rated keeper in L'Equipe.
"It is a shame. Opponents are allowed to reach our box too easily. That is annoying to me.
"I am trying to get the message across. We must not give up on anything, we must give our very best at all times. It makes me mad at times, our lack of spirit.
"I am not saying that the boys aren't trying, sometimes they just let their standards slip.
"It is not a question of football ability, it is one of self trust and mental strength."
