Monaco boss Guy Lacombe admits Dieumerci Mbokani has found the going tough in France this season.
The Congolese striker joined the Ligue 1 giants from Standard Liege over the summer, having impressed greatly during his time in Belgium.
He has, however, been unable to find his form at Stade Louis II and has scored just one goal so far this season.
Lacombe concedes that Mbokani has not made the impact he had been hoping for, but feels the player could still be a success if he is prepared to put the effort in.
"He is a good player," he said.
"The problem has been adaptation. We know it is extremely difficult here.
"I have had players who were much more difficult to manage in the past, so then it comes down to the player's commitment.
"Perhaps he has not understood everything about Le Championnat, and I believe he needs to get involved more in the group.
"I know a lot of players who have had big difficulties at the start but have gone on to be a success."
