The Senegal international was faced with a quandary in 2009 as he contemplated his next move.

An 11-year stint with Sochaux had just come to an end and he found himself at a crossroads in his career.

Daf admits he had tempting offers to leave France, but felt the offer put to him by Ligue 2 outfit Brest was the best for him and his family.

"I had contacts in Ligue 1 and especially in Greece," the 33-year-old said in France Football.

"But I have two very young children, so I prioritised my family life and preferred to stay in France.

"I spoke with (coach) Alex Dupont and I decided to experiment with Brest in Ligue 2. I sensed a genuine desire to bring me in and the club has a family spirit, like at Sochaux, it suited me very well.

"We had a great first season culminating in promotion."

Balanced

Brest's success did not stop there, with the 2010/11 campaign seeing them maintain their upward momentum.

After 13 games, they find themselves at the Ligue 1 summit and Daf admits things could not have gone any better.

"At Brest, we have a balanced team with a mix of young and experienced elements," he said.

"I think it shows a certain state of mind, with humility and solidarity. When one enters the field, it is important to have fun.

"Alex Dupont is a coach that gives us great confidence. I have only worked with him for a year-and-a-half but he is someone who has impressed me with his generosity, his simplicity.

"He ensures that all players, even those who play less, remain concentrated."
