Auxerre skipper not giving up on place in last 16

Auxerre captain Benoit Pedretti remains optimistic that the club can qualify for the knockout phase of the UEFA Champions League. The French side have lost their opening two group games to AC Milan and Real Madrid, but Pedretti is not giving up hope of reaching the last 16. Ahead of Tuesday's game away to Ajax, Pedretti outlined the results he is looking for from the next two fixtures in Group G. "We are doing our best with our group," Pedretti told L'Equipe. "In the Champions League, everything remains possible. "If Real get two wins against Milan and we get four points against Ajax, the second position in the group could be decided against AC Milan at Stade Abbe-Deschamps." Auxerre are also hovering just outside the bottom three in Ligue 1 and Pedretti believes the squad is lacking in depth. He added: "We have a lot of injured players in attack, we are not lucky. "Of course, we don't have enough weapons to achieve a good season in both Le Championnat and the Champions League. "If we have to aim at survival in Ligue 1 and to do our best in Europe, we can do it. We would have appreciated having more ambition in both competitions. "We will try to get survival and not be ridiculous in the Champions League."
