French stopper eyeing move to Italy, but deal may stall

Lyon right-back Francois Clerc is courting the interest of clubs from both the Premier League and Serie A, according to the player's agent. The defender is highly-rated and has been subject to transfer speculation after his deal expired at the Ligue 1 side. Clerc has previously expressed his desire to leave Stade de Gerland and will now weigh-up his options. The 27-year-old is not short of offers, according to agent Frederic Guerra, who says overtures have been received from English and Italian sides. He revealed the French international may not move to Italy because of clubs stalling on making a bid for his services, despite it being Clerc's preferred destination. Guerra said: "Interest from Italian clubs? In fact, in Italy something is moving, but we are dealing with some English clubs too. "I cannot reveal the names of the teams but I can say with certainty that I spoke with Francois, who expressed a preference for the Italian championship rather than England. "The problem is that Italian companies right now are a bit too soft. If they continue to put off from week to week, in the end we'll do nothing."
