Stuttgart general manager Horst Heldt has moved to distance the club from reports they are set to bid for Sidney Govou.
The France international is currently on the books of Ligue 1 giants Lyon, but has been strongly linked with a switch to Germany of late.
However, Heldt insists there is no substance to the rumours, claiming the Bundesliga outfit are not looking to bolster their attacking options.
"There is no truth in it," he told Sat.1.
"As far as I'm concerned, he is an attacking player, almost a striker. Maybe he is trying to up his basic salary with this rumour."
While Heldt has ruled out an approach for Govou, an untimely injury sustained by the 30-year-old is likely to have ended their interest anyway.
The Lyon skipper is facing up to a month on the sidelines with a hamstring problem, but he remains upbeat regarding what could be in store during the 2009/10 campaign.
"It is sad news but I will be back very soon," he told skysports.com.
"It is a setback when you get injured at the start of the season, but I am looking forward to challenging for the league and going to South Africa (for the World Cup finals next summer) with confidence."
