Marseille coach keen on Spain adventure

Marseille coach Erik Gerets has suggested he is unhappy at having to wait until the end of the season to learn if he will secure a new contract. Reports have claimed that the former Belgium international will be offered an extension to his tenure at Stade Velodrome. However, Gerets feels his future could be dictated by whether the club qualify for the UEFA Champions League and he has hinted he would be tempted by a move to Spain. "Being forced to wait for the end of the season, and a possible Champions League qualification, to know my future is not part of my plans," Gerets told La Derniere Heure. "I prefer to leave raising my head high and then being welcomed back to my former clubs, rather than leaving with doors slammed. "Sevilla is a beautiful and sunny city with a great club. I would like to discover Spain, and I am watching my emails every day, hoping for an invitation." Meanwhile, Gerets has admitted his interest in Standard Liege duo Steven Defour and Alex Witsel, who have been linked with moves to the Premier League. Gerets told L'Equipe: "I like Defour, he is a great prospect. He is a very clever player, while Alex will be fantastic in Ligue 1."
