Claude Makelele has denied reports suggesting he is set to call time on his career over the summer.
Rumours started circulating after the Paris St Germain midfielder told Spanish newspaper AS that he could hang up his boots at the end of the season and become the club's sporting director.
However, the former France international insists he was merely suggesting possible routes for the future, not giving notice of his intentions.
"There was a misunderstanding. I never stated I wish to hang up my boots at the end of the current season, or become sporting director. It is not topical. I have just stated it could be conceivable," he told PSG's official website.
PSG have also been quick to play down suggestions Makelele will head into retirement at the end of the current campaign.
"Claude Makelele has never told anyone that he is set to bring an end to his career," read a statement on the club's website.
"At the moment, he has not made any decision regarding his future and he remains a PSG player."
