Midfielder's future remains unclear

Newcastle midfielder Geremi has rubbished reports suggesting he is keen to leave the club. The Cameroon international has been strongly linked with a January exit from St James' Park, with a host of clubs lining up to seal his signature. Turkish giants Besiktas were thought to be preparing a £1.5million approach, while two other teams on the continent are believed to have expressed an interest. With transfer funds in short supply on Tyneside, Magpies boss Joe Kinnear was expected to cash in on a player who has struggled to hold down a first-team role this season. However, Geremi insists he has been given no indication that he is surplus to requirements and has every intention of remaining in the North East for the foreseeable future.

"I only know what I read in the newspapers and what I hear from my friends, who have been calling me asking what is happening," Geremi told The Shields Gazette. "I have been linked with a few clubs, but I would say my future is here. Newcastle have not told me I am not wanted, and I do not know if they are trying to sell me. "What I know is that I want to play for Newcastle. I said when I signed (in 2007) that I wanted to complete my three years. When you are in football you know what you want. "I have no intention to move - I love the Premier League - but you can never say never. If the club say they don't want me, then I would have to think about my future."
