Midfielder set for season-long loan in France

Benfica midfielder Freddy Adu has agreed to join Monaco on a season-long loan, with the option to make the move permanent. The 19-year-old signed for Benfica in July 2007 and scored five goals in 21 appearances as the club worked their way through three different managers last term. However, Adu started just two matches as Benfica finished fifth in the Portuguese league and he is now heading for pastures new in an attempt to secure regular first XI football. Adu will be a member of United States' Olympic squad in Beijing in August and is then expected to join Monaco. The French outfit will hope Adu can help them improve on last season's 12th-placed Ligue 1 finish. Meanwhile, Metallurg Donetsk defender Lolo Igor is on trial with Monaco as the 26-year-old Ivory Coast international attempts to impress in order to secure a contract.
