France keeper keen to feature in South Africa

Gregory Coupet intends to remain part of the France squad until the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. The veteran keeper has recently completed a move from perennial Ligue 1 champions Lyon to Atletico Madrid and is keen to set himself targets for the future. One of those is to help his new club establish themselves as European force, while he remains focused on prolonging an international career which suffered Euro 2008 heartache this summer. "Playing for Atletico and the possibility of playing in the Champions League allow me to continue to think, to dream of the French squad," he said. Coupet currently has 34 caps for his country, but he has every intention of adding to that haul in the coming years. He has penned a two-year deal with Atletico and has revealed his motives for swapping life in his homeland for that in Spain. "I want to try to show that I have a place in the starting line-up to defend," he said, suggesting that he had become complacent at Stade Gerland.
