Hull boss eyes Giannakopoulos and Mendy

Hull boss Phil Brown is to step up his interest in Stelios Giannakopoulos and Bernard Mendy this week. Greek midfielder Giannakopoulos was released by Bolton at the end of last season while right-back Mendy is also available after being told by Paris Saint Germain he is free to leave. Brown has been tracking the duo for some time and is hoping to close in on a double signing over the next couple of days. The Tigers chief accepts that no transfers are likely to be confirmed before he takes his Hull squad for a pre-season training trip to Italy, but he is keen to get deals in place. "I've spoken with Stelios' agent and the player is back in Greece at this moment in time," Brown told the Hull Daily Mail. "I've spoken at length with his agent and we'll have an offer in place, probably on Wednesday. "The plan of attack is that when we get back from Bormio, then he could join up with us if he decides it's right for him. "That's the process that we're going through but I'm expecting an answer from Bernard Mendy on Wednesday as well." Brown has worked with both Giannakopoulos and Mendy in the past during his time as assistant manager at Bolton. Mendy had a loan spell with the Trotters in 2002/03 while Giannakopoulos joined Wanderers from Olympiakos in 2003.
