Lille have agreed a deal to take Rio Mavuba back to France.
The 23-year-old left Bordeaux last summer and joined Villarreal in Spain.
However, things have not gone to plan for Mavuba at El Madrigal as he has only played five games.
He has now agreed a six-month loan with Lille, who are looking for midfield reinforcments with Jean II Makoun away at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Lille have agreed to pay all of Mavuba's wages until the summer - after which point they will decide whether to make the deal permanent.
