Nurnberg striker Robert Vittek will miss the rest of 2007 after undergoing knee surgery.
The Slovakia international reported a pain in his knee during Saturday's 1-1 draw at Cottbus and an MRI scan by club doctors revealed meniscus damage.
Vittek's agent Karol Csonto confirmed that the forward had gone under the knife, and while it was a success, he is unlikely to be available until January.
"They underwent surgery on part of his cartilage and everything went according to the plan," Csonto told SITA.
"Robo will be wearing a plaster for the next six weeks and he will return to action in January, at the earliest."
No Hurry
Nurnberg sporting director Martin Bader explained that Vittek's recuperation would be slow, and under no circumstances would they rush his return.
"Robert needs a quiet, gradual treatment. He will be given as much time as he needs for the recovery.
"We don't want to put him under pressure by hurrying up the treatment.
"His health is important most of all. In this point of view, we will wait until he is absolutely fit."
