Jim Jefferies acknowledges that he faces a battle to keep Mark Kerr at Dunfermline, but he will not be giving up without a fight.
The midfielder is out of contract and is yet to put pen to paper on fresh terms.
The Pars are, however, planning to hold talks regarding a new deal, with Kerr considered to be an important part of their plans.
Jefferies will be charged with the task of guiding Dunfermline back into the SPL at the first time of asking in 2012/13 and he is hoping that Kerr will agree to lead that charge.
"We've spoken to Mark and he knows we want to keep him," he told the Daily Record.
"He said he will keep us posted.
"We'll make him an offer as good as we can.
"He was one of the higher earners for us but has intimated he's prepared to listen to our offer.
"He's outside what we're trying to do financially but we'll see what comes of it."
