Howe hoping to win race for Buddies ace McLean

Skysports.com understands Burnley are leading the race for St Mirren starlet Kenny McLean. McLean is regarded as one of the brightest young prospects to emerge in Scotland in recent years and has been earning rave reviews for St Mirren this season. The 19-year-old has made 15 appearances for St Mirren this season and was rewarded for his fine form with the SPL's young player of the month award in October. Celtic have been credited with an interest in the central midfielder, but Burnley are hoping to lure the Scotland Under 21 international to England. Burnley boss Eddie Howe is believed to have had McLean watched on several occasions this season as he weighs up a move for the player when the transfer window reopens in January. St Mirren would be loath to lose McLean, but they would find it hard to resist a sizeable offer for the youngster in the New Year.
